BOOK LAUNCH EVENT – “The Rebel’s Hike” by Joan K Smith and Sophie Swinford
December 4th, 4:00 PM at Madison County Elementary School
Gurley, AL – Graces of Gurley, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is thrilled to announce the official book launch of The Rebel’s Hike, a Young Adult Fiction/Christian/Fantasy novel authored by Joan K Smith and Sophie Swinford, a mentor and mentee duo from Graces of Gurley’s Jacob's Ladder Youth Mentor Program.
The Rebel’s Hike takes readers on a gripping adventure, following the lives of a group of middle school students as they navigate challenges and make choices that ultimately define their paths. Woven with Christian themes, the novel explores the importance of choosing good over evil, highlighting the power of faith, friendship, and courage.
Joanie and Sophie’s journey began with a shared love of the outdoors and many long hikes together, starting when Sophie was in the 6th grade. Through these moments, they forged a meaningful connection, inspiring them to co-write a book that would speak to the trials and growth that young people often face. Their collaboration not only marks a unique achievement within the Graces of Gurley community but also embodies the impact that mentorship can have in fostering creativity and resilience in young people. Now that Sophie is a freshman in high school, they will continue to spend time together as they promote their creation.
