The USDA website states “At this time, there will be no benefits issued November 01.” Graces of Gurley is taking a proactive approach to ensure that our neighbors who rely on SNAP benefits will not go hungry. We are deeply concerned for the dozens of local families who may be left without food if benefits are delayed next week. Many of these families are single mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers who work hard to provide for their children and depend on this assistance to feed their families.

We are calling on our churches and community partners to step up and help us meet this urgent need. Our team is putting clear guidelines in place for fair and effective food distribution, prioritizing those most in need. The beauty of donating to a local organization like Graces of Gurley is that we personally know many of our neighbors — and we will ensure to the best of our ability every donation goes directly to the families who need it most. We will also track food distribution through Charity Tracker, a secure case management tool which helps non-profits coordinate services, track client assistance, and avoid dupicating efforts and abuse.

Any food that is not needed immediately will be stored for the coming winter months, when higher electric bills make it even harder for struggling families to afford groceries.
